Corporate Responsibility
Ecology And Ethics
At Murals For Walls we are passionate about all things wallpaper but also aware of our responsibility. That's why we work hard every day to help make a positive impact. We are a small Chinese online wallpaper store based in the heart of the country, integrating our commitment to sustainability, ethical practices and community support into our fabrics. If you're landing on this page, you're interested in how we do business, so let's take a look.
Source Responsibly From Trusted Suppliers And Long-Term Partners
Our journey starts with supplier selection, and we are very rigorous in choosing suppliers! We prefer to establish long-term cooperation based on trust and work with partners who share the same commitments and goals. We value mutual trust more than short-term profits. Over the years we have selected a limited number of suppliers, all from Europe and the United States. We share best practices with them and check in with them regularly to ensure they are following strict environmental and ethical standards.
The Following Are Our Key Environmental Commitments To Our Suppliers:
Use Sustainable And Environmentally Friendly Materials
Our suppliers mainly use paper and non-woven materials, as well as natural materials such as grass, cork, bamboo, etc. Preferred materials are water-based, solvent-free, PVC-free, and use environmentally friendly colors. Using FSC certified pulp and wood pulp sourced from responsibly managed forests ensures products are produced with forest conservation in mind.
Environmentally Friendly Production Processes And Energy Efficiency
Environmentally friendly production processes, including the use of water-based, biodegradable inks and dyes, ensure our wallpapers are free of harmful chemicals. This is very important to us! Reducing energy consumption is also a priority and many of our suppliers use waste heat from production processes to heat their facilities.
Handmade And Traditional Crafts
We work with a number of suppliers who are deeply committed to traditional craftsmanship and combine these with modern technology. This approach helps preserve craftsmanship and reduces the carbon footprint by avoiding large-scale production methods.
Commitment To Certification And Standards
We place great value on our suppliers adhering to strict environmental, ethical and social standards including GOTS, Fairtrade, Organic Exchange, Oeko-Tex and FSC. Our wallpaper labels clearly indicate which standards the product meets.
Reduce Waste And Pollution Generation
We work with manufacturers to minimize waste and pollution. By using water-based printing technology (i.e., “smokeless ink systems”), we eliminate the emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other pollutants typically associated with traditional printing processes. Excess pigment and paper waste is also dealt with responsibly, often into heat energy or recycled, resulting in more efficient resource management.
Embrace Environmental Innovation
We have been committed to introducing environmentally friendly elements into our wallpaper business and are also committed to continuously expanding the range of environmentally friendly wallpapers. However, one particular model we are particularly proud of is one of the world’s first fully compostable wallpapers called the Veruso Lino. Made entirely from plant-based materials, we are proud that this wallpaper embodies the perfect combination of innovation and conservation of nature. The production of wallpaper requires minimal water, and the unique needle felt and spunlace processes eliminate the need for traditional adhesives, making the wallpaper not only environmentally friendly, but also strong and pleasant to the touch.
Veruso Lino is more than just a product, it is our statement against the unsustainable practices present in modern wallpaper production. Traditional wallpaper often ends up in landfills or incineration facilities, causing environmental damage. Veruso Lino breaks the cycle and offers a sustainable, compostable alternative that returns nutrients to the earth and transforms waste into raw materials for new products.
Eco-Friendly Packaging And Carbon-Neutral Shipping
All our packaging is provided by local suppliers to minimize our carbon footprint and we focus on using recyclable materials to package our wallpapers, keeping the use of plastic to a minimum. To further reduce waste we recycle all the cardboard boxes we receive from our suppliers, cut them into small pieces and use them to secure the wallpaper rolls inside the boxes.
For shipping, we chose to partner with UPS because we were impressed by their commitment to a carbon neutrality program, where shipping emissions are offset and made carbon neutral. In countries where UPS cannot serve, we will choose to cooperate with China Post, which provides a way to offset the carbon emissions of logistics by investing in global climate protection projects through the GOGREEN program.
Websites And Web Services
We are an online retailer and we understand that running an online business inherently involves energy consumption, which can have an impact on the environment. That’s why we deliberately chose a server provider that is purpose-built, generates electricity from renewable energy and is ASEW “climate neutral” certified.
We also work with our hosting company to compensate for all the energy used by our network processes with atmosfair’s ecology and regeneration projects.
According to Website Carbon, a website that assesses the carbon footprint of the web, our pages are cleaner than 72% of the world’s web pages, producing just 0.26 grams of CO2 every time someone visits our site.
Support Local Communities And Create Opportunities
We started our company in a small village in the heart of the rural province and, decades later, we are still proud to be part of our community. We are a major driver of job creation, providing safe and secure employment amid the challenges of global transformation. We pride ourselves on offering flexible roles based on mothers’ needs and empowering them to have greater opportunities in the job market.
Our employees come from all walks of life. Some of them are people with disabilities, and we bring their unique talents into our workflow by providing them with the opportunity to work remotely. Our ongoing collaboration with local non-profit organization Vogtlandwerke demonstrates our commitment. We share working and warehousing space with them, and through our partnerships we provide greater opportunities for people with disabilities, enriching our teams and the wider community.
Our Commitment
We are a small but proud participant in the wallpaper industry and we are committed to staying true to what we believe in. From supporting our local communities to helping our industry move towards a greener, more sustainable future, we believe we are doing everything right, we know you will trust us too, and we will always do our best to make it happen Promise of!
